2013 South End Art Hop

Eye And I Glass, in conjunction with Frog Hollow and RETN, presented 2 days of live glassblowing demonstrations on the porch of RETN’s studios at the Art Hop (September 6 & 7, 2013).

This year’s event featured the unveiling of RETN’s (Regional Educational Television Network) new logo and was the first time for Eric and Eye And I Glass to participate in the Art Hop, an annual event in Burlington attracting over 30,000 people to view hundreds of artists presenting their open studios and live demonstrations throughout the weekend.

We reproduced a small-scale version of Eric’s home glassblowing shop right outside the cable studio’s door on a nice wide wooden porch. The space comfortably held a crowd of 20-25 people and was respectably filled out with spectators whenever Eric was working. Alternating demonstrations between glass latticino cane pulling and subsequently using the latticino cane to decorate a “feathered look” Christmas ornament and the ornament blowing process.

RETN cameramen filmed both demonstrations as well as interviews with Eric for use in a (continuing) series of mini-documentaries on Vermont artists that are shown on the regional station and in the Frog Hollow gallery on Church St. in Burlington.
